Earrings come in an endless variety of styles and materials. People use them to define personal style and pull outfits together. For these reasons, most women have an impressive amount of earrings in their jewelry collection. Without sufficient storage, earrings eventually end up lost, damaged, or missing their mates. Some may require protective storage, while others may be artfully stored or displayed in the open.
Protective Earring Storage
Earrings made of fine metals and precious stones should be protected from scratches and damage. Place each pair in a small velvet pouch with a drawstring top. Store the pouches in a small dresser drawer that you have specifically designated for earring storage. For an alternate solution, a handheld velvet or satin lined jewelry storage case with small compartments provides protective storage and convenience. For easy travel packing, the case can be simply thrown in a carry on.
Hanging Earring Storage
An earring display hung on the wall makes selecting from a large collection simple. You can easily pick out the earrings when they’re stored at eye level. Long chandelier earrings hang without becoming tangled. People who prefer to leave their earrings in the open come up with creative jewelry displays. To make a hanging display, fasten a piece of screen into an 11x14 picture frame that has the glass and the back removed. Hang the frame on the wall and simply insert your earrings through the screen.
For a more polished look, wrap a piece of stiff cardboard in a piece of satin and overlay it with lace. Hang this in the picture frame instead of the screen. Once the back is replaced hang it on the wall. Hang the earrings by slipping the wires of the earrings through the openings in the lace. Make a smaller tabletop version by using a 8"x10" or 5"x7" picture frame.
Tabletop Earring Storage
Place vases of different heights on the dresser and use them to for earring storage. The differing heights make an eye-catching display. To allow the earrings to take center stage use clear vases. Wine flutes can serve the same purpose.
For stud earrings, small, shallow crystal or china cups and bowls can serve as earring storage. Refrain from throwing to many pairs into one container, otherwise too much time will be spent rummaging for the desired pair. Hanging earrings with wire hooks around the edges of the dishes will help organize them.
